Did you know that Shad Thames was once home to a famous brewery?

 

In 1787 John Courage started Courage & Co at the Anchor Brewhouse on Shad Thames.

 

There were three parts of the building, the Boiler House, the Brewhouse and Malt Mill, which all had their role in the brewing process.

 

Today there are still signs of the famous brewery in and around Shad Thames.

 

If you look closely you will see the famous Courage logo on the gate (the Cockrill) and a plaque with the history of the building and a bit more about John Courage and his family.
