This Pride Month, Courage Yard invites you to explore the rich, diverse and often overlooked LGBTQIA+ history of Southwark through our new Walk With Pride heritage trail.
Created with the help of the wonderful Southwark Archives, the self-guided trail uncovers the stories, people and movements that have shaped queer life in our local area. By scanning QR codes located throughout Courage Yard, visitors can discover fascinating insights into the lives of artists, activists, performers and community pioneers who have left their mark on Southwark and beyond.
From the legacy of filmmaker and artist Derek Jarman to stories of Pride, drag, self-expression and trans identities, the trail highlights both historic milestones and personal experiences that form part of our neighbourhood’s cultural heritage.
Whether you’re a local resident, a visitor to the area or simply curious to learn more, Walk With Pride offers a meaningful way to celebrate Pride Month and discover the stories woven into the streets around us.
