Did you know that the first ever London marthon had not one, but two winners?

The London Marathon was founded in 1981 by Olympic champion and journalist Chris Brasher and athlete John Disley, at this first race more than 20 thousand people signed up to run.

Two of those people were American, Dick Beardsley and Norwegian, Igne Simonsen. These two men were head to head in the almost the entire race but it wasn’t until the last few minutes that both men decided to win together holding hands over the finish line, completing the race in 2 hours, 11 minutes, 48 seconds.

This year over half a million people applied to be in the London marthon. So if you are running or watching why not head over to Courage Yard for post race drinks!
